Paddy Power Betfair were recently included in the top 9% of all travel and leisure companies in FTSE Russell’s ‘FTSE4Good’ index which recognises strong environmental, social and governance practices. Some of our CSR achievements include:
Tomorrow’s People is a charity that supports young adults aged 18-24 who face overwhelming barriers to employment. Our partnership helps to create ‘youth hubs’ which foster and develop skills required to secure a job. We also invite Tomorrow’s People to send candidates to our retail recruitment days.
YGAM seeks to educate young people on the risks associated with gambling. Our partnership helps the charity to provide certified training and resources for teachers, probation officers and mental health workers to deliver courses on problem-gambling to young people. YGAM have also started to work on a University Peer-Education project this year that teaches students to support and engage with their peers about gambling related harm.
Our Cash-4-Clubs programme continues to provide grants to local sports clubs to improve facilities, purchase new equipment or gain coaching qualifications.
Our ‘Back Yourself’ initiative supports ordinary people who are taking on extraordinary challenges to raise money for great causes. Challengers submit their chosen event and we provide a free bet at odds based on them completing the event in their target time.
Race to Races for Special Olympics Ireland
The now annual ‘Paddy Power Betfair Race to the Races’ is a two day, two hundred kilometre cycling challenge from Westport to the Galway Races. The event raised over €20,000 for Special Olympics Ireland last year and plans are already in place to make the 2017 annual event an even larger affair.
National Jockey Day
On National Jockey Day we donate £1 for every #NationalJockeyDay tweet or bet placed on the Jockey Day Double Market to the Injured Jockey’s Fund. This year’s event was tied to the Betfair Chase sponsorship at Haydock Park and raised £50,000.
Stable Staff Week
We hosted a variety of events and challenges as part of ‘Stable Staff Week’ during 2016, culminating with the Betfair Clock Tower Cup at Doncaster where stable staff switched roles with their jockey to ride horses trained by their bosses. The winner was awarded a scholarship to the British School of Racing, where they received the highest level of training to help them towards the next step of their career.
Orange Pigeon grants special wishes for adults diagnosed with life threatening or terminal illnesses in Australia. On top of a $50,000 donation to the charity, Sportsbet provides mentoring, office space and access to our leading HR, Finance, Marketing and Technology teams in Melbourne under a charity incubator programme.
Romania Walking Month
Our Cluj office challenging themselves to walk as much as possible during Romania’s Walking Month at the same time as raising money for Special Maltese Kindergarten, a day care centre in Cluj for children with neuromotor impairments. Activity trackers helped to track the progress of teams, and prizes were awarded to the top four teams with the greatest number of steps. Registrations for Walking Month were donated to the charity, and covered the annual cost of therapy for 10 children at the school.
